Nujabes – Light on the Land
Once you begin to listen to Nujabes, it’s difficult to stop. Case and point with this Bonus Track — I’ve been on a Nujabes listening streak lately.
Can’t bring up this song without a bit of analysis, either. One of my favorite things about Light on the Land is the subtle cricket chirp sample underneath each snare drum. If you close your eyes and listen, that cricket just pushes you right out of wherever you are. Suddenly you can see yourself lying on your back in the grass of a forest clearing on a humid Summer night. Nujabes constructs a certain atmosphere in the track that is very visually provocative. The beat of the song also strays from traditional Hip-Hop, taking on more of a Jazz-centric form. A very soothing song, indeed.
